Queens based pianist Marius Van Den Brink is one of the most in demand musicians of his generation and for good reasons. His perfect accompaniment along with his fierce leading style make him a double threat and one to be reckoned with. He has performed and recorded with well-known artists such as Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Joel Frahm, Willie Jones III, Ingrid Jensen, Ara Dinkjian, Sean Jones, Haley Reinhart, the Birdland Bigband and the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
As a leader and side men Marius has performed at world class stages such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam), Birdland Jazz Club (NYC), GroudUp Festival (MIA), Smalls Jazz Club (NYC) Dizzy’s Club (NYC), Sony Music Hall (NYC), The Cretan World Music festival (Greece), Mezzrow (NYC) Jazz Forum and the Bimhuis (Amsterdam).
In March 2023 Marius recorded a new studio album entitled 'New York Knock' as well as a live album at Dizzy’s Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center. Both albums have been recorded with a stellar band: Sean Jones on trumpet, Stacy Dillard on Saxophone, Noah Halpern on trumpet, Matt Penman on Bass, Willie Jones III on drums and Keita Ogawa on Percussion. The studio album ‘New York Knock has been released at a sold out Dizzy’s Club on January 14th, 2024.
The album title track and it's first released single ‘New York Knock’ tells the compelling story of Marius’ experience of moving to New York City after being born and raised in a tiny village in the northern part of the Netherlands. ‘Knock’ serves as a synonym for ‘wake up call’, symbolizing Marius’ realization of the vibrant music culture in New York and how that has changed him and his playing. ‘It is also a reminder to myself to keep going out, meet new musicians, play together and to listen to music. New York is a place where you can get life changing opportunities if you’re at the right place and time.’ The song features master jazz trumpeter Sean Jones.
The ‘Live at Dizzy’s Club’ album has been released on February 6th, 2025 and has received high praise from various jazz critics around the world:
“Marius’ strong and original voice as a composer makes me think of a modern Horace Silver” -Sean Jones
