John H. Smith is a native New Yorker with deep roots in the Harlem and Long Island Jazz and Roots Music scenes. Raised in a house full of music with influences including Gospel, Classical, Blues and Jazz, John couldn’t help but pursue music. Boasting a robust, swinging sound all his own, Mr Smith is a voice worth attention and a talent not to be missed. John has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the legendary Apollo and Beacon Theatres, The Red Rooster (Harlem), and nearly every famous Jazz café in New York City including the Blue Note, Showman’s Jazz Club, Fat Cat Club, Dizzy’s Coca-Cola Club, and Patrick’s Place (Harlem) and Jazz venues throughout the country. Master guitarist and educator Rodney Jones has toured worldwide, performed and recorded with a who’s who of music including Dizzy Gillespie, James Brown, Lena Horne, Quincy Jones, Christian McBride, Stevie Wonder, Elvin Jones, Kenny Burrell, Stan Getz, and countless others. His highly popular Blue Note album “Soul Manifesto” is widely regarded as one of the most important works in modern history. Hailing from New Haven CT, guitarist Ed Cherry has established himself as a beloved mainstay in the NYC scene through years of recording, worldwide live shows, and a style all his own with a warm, incredibly swinging and soulful bent. Ed moved to NY to play with Dizzy Gillespie from 1978 to 1992 performing in Gillespie's quartet, big band and with The United Nation Orchestra which recorded the Grammy Award-winning Live at Royal Festival Hall (Enja). With credits too numerous to mention here, Ed continues to work nationally and internationally; concerts, workshops & jazz clubs. Please join us for what will be a magical evening with a luscious line up of guitar, vibes, Hammond organ and drums! What a sound!

(we will clear the room after the 12pm set concludes around 1pm) World renowned vibraphonist Tyler Blanton presents Brazilian Jazz Brunch featuring a rotating cast of the most accomplished Brazilian Jazz musicians in NYC. Expect an infectious array of Bossa Nova, Sambas, and selections from the great Brazilian songbook both familiar and lesser known. This week's show features pianist Helio Alves, bassist Eduardo Belo, and drummer Duduka Da Fonseca. Collectively they've performed with a long list of the most recognized artists of the Brazilian musical tradition.

Rich Williams

Saxophonist Rich Williams has been captivating listeners for decades with his soulful style. Within Rich’s playing you can hear the whispery lyricism of Paul Desmond, the soulful and bluesy bop lines of Lou Donaldson, the joyfulness of Cannonball Adderley and the syncopated funk of Maceo Parker. Rich has performed with members of Phish, moe, Twiddle, the Greg Allman Band, Floodwood, Maceo Parker and Melvin Sparks. As an educator, Rich Williams is currently the Band Director at Mahopac High School in Mahopac, NY where he has received numerous awards for the ensembles that he directs.

RICH HINMAN VS ADAM LEVY *ALBUM RELEASE PARTY*

Rich Hinman vs Adam Levy is an instrumental quartet featuring Rich Hinman on pedal steel and lap steel, and Adam Levy on guitar. Having played together, on and off, for nearly 30 years, these two share a common musical language. Their repertoire of jazz, blues, country and soul songs ranges from standards to obscure numbers, and original tunes as well. Their New York-based rhythm section comprises Chris Morrissey on bass and Dan Rieser on drums. The quartet’s vibe is at once funky and atmospheric, festive and melancholy. Collectively, these four musicians have worked with K.D. Lang, Norah Jones, Mark Guiliana, Allen Toussaint, Rosanne Cash, Sara Bareilles and many many others. They released a record in 2019 called ‘VS’, which is available exclusively on Bandcamp. Their second record, ‘Fan Favorites’, comes out May 17. Please join us for this special album release party!!!

ANTOINE DRYE "BAMONO"

Antoine Drye, hailing from Washington D.C., is a NYC-based, freelance trumpeter, where he has been a mainstay on the music scene since 1999. Drye’s warm, inviting tone and lyrical style are often noted. He plays a wide range of music from American music’s vast songbook, as well as originals. BAMONO (Black American Music Of New Orleans) is a collective group that highlights the music of New Orleans composers and musicians. Drye has worked across musical genres with a wide range of artists including Ellis Marsalis, Brian Blade, Paul Simon, The Brand New Heavies among many others.

CRAIG HANDY & 2ND LINE SMITH

Saxophonist Craig Handy began his career performing with jazz masters such as Art Blakey, Roy Haynes, Abdullah Ibrahim, and the Mingus Dynasty Band. By his late 20s, Handy was already known for his technical mastery and prodigious post-bop talent, as well as the versatility demonstrated by performing with vocalists like Betty Carter and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Handy has since toured and performed with numerous jazz masters, including Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton, Wynton Marsalis, and The Cookers. Handy now leads a new project entitled Craig Handy & 2nd Line Smith, drawing on New Orleans music and the groove-filled re-imaginings of originals and standards by the late, great organist Jimmy Smith.

Pete has recorded sixteen times as a leader and has established performing, recording and inspirational contact with a host of masters including Joe Lovano, Vernel Fournier, Charles Davis, Mel Lewis, Dennis Irwin, Karrin Allyson, Steve Wilson and many, many others. RICHARD BARATTA "GOTHAM CITY LATIN JAZZ QUINTET"

Grammy Nomimated drummer Richard Baratta moved to NYC in 1975 to pursue his musical career and has performed with the likes of John Stubblefield, Joe Ford, Frank Strozier, Vernon Reid, Cyro Baptista, Hank Mobley, Johnny Hartman and many more. In 1984, Baratta decided to dramatically alter paths, and pursued a career in movie production. Since working on his first film, Desperately Seeking Susan, Baratta has worked on over 50 movies. In 2016 he decided to return to his roots and main love and began performing music again, while continuing to produce films. From Baratta’s lips, “I’m telling you, I’m in heaven. A light bulb has gone off in my head and the music seems clearer, fresher and more illuminating than ever.” He has recorded four records since 2019, and has been leading his two different bands, THE GOTHAM CITY LATIN JAZZ SEPTET, AND THE 3B’s + 2, in Jazz Clubs, Music Festivals, Summer Concerts, etc. on a regular basis.
